Companies are choosing gifts that give back

8/18/2021

With the COVID pandemic forcing over a year of lockdowns and work-from-home arrangements, companies have had to become more creative in making sure clients and customers keep them in mind.  But more than just buying items to slap their logo on, companies are increasingly leaning towards products that are mindful of the environment or those that help uplift marginalized communities for their corporate gifting needs.

Fortunately, corporate gift suppliers are more than able to fulfill these requirements, with some even focusing solely on working with disadvantaged communities to manufacture their products.

BalaiKamay’s products are created by local communities of highly skilled Filipino craftsmen greatly affected by the ongoing pandemic. They use sustainable raw materials such as repurposed scrap wood and non-timber forest products like bamboo to help protect the ecological balance of the planet. In this way, customers and clients share proactively towards sustainability of local livelihood and the environment.

Looking for Juan offers eco-friendly tote bags, face masks, journals/planners -- all locally made, featuring artwork from homegrown artists that mirror the art and soul of Filipinos. Each purchase supports the OneMillion Books for One Million Filipino Children Campaign which helps millions of functionally illiterate Filipino youths by increasing access to books and encouraging a love for reading to promote functional literacy, creative thinking, and independent reading skills.

Gifts & Graces Foundation advocates and closely adheres to the 10 Principles of Fair Trade in its engagements with both the makers and the consumers. Paying a fair price, not allowing for child labor practices and upcycling to reduce waste are but a few of the activities practiced by the organization. Gifts and graces products are beautifully and thoughtfully designed by artisans using traditional techniques, upcycled products, and are crafted by Filipino women from various communities around the country.
“Companies want to give meaningful gifts to connect with their audience, while helping make a positive contribution to society” shares Raquel Romero, President of World Expos & Concepts, the company that organizes the annual Corporate Giveaways Buyers’ Show. “We're happy to give these organizations a platform where they can showcase their products to companies searching for gifts that give back".

Building customer and employee loyalty through gifting

It’s safe to say that the past year has led everyone to be somewhat isolated. Working from home and the absence of traditional company bonding exercises like team planning sessions or even just meals in the office cafeteria have made employees feel disconnected. Likewise, the absence of sales calls, product launches and other face-to-face events have contributed to companies feeling out of touch with their customers.

More and more, companies are finding that gifting can be a great way to reconnect with their team and clients.  Reaching out with a gift reminds people that they’re not forgotten just because they happen to be out of sight. The essence of gifting is really to show recognition, and the feeling of appreciation that you create with customers and employees will stay with them beyond the moment the gift is received. They will remember it when they’re canvassing for vendors, or when a contract is up for renewal or maybe even when they are evaluating other job offers. Furthermore, recipients will probably send a message of thanks, opening lines of communication and naturally increasing engagement.

For corporate gifting to be done correctly, the recipient should always be top of mind. No matter how high or low the cost, a gift that’s well-suited to the receiver will always be welcome. So before sending out that package, spend a minute to think about whether it’s something the receiver will enjoy. Does your client have any allergies or dietary restrictions that might prevent them from consuming that food-filled gift basket? Will that mobile accessory be compatible with their favorite device? There is nothing more delightful than receiving a gift that you feel has been tailored to you.
